Scholarly journals are periodicals that contain articles, book reviews, and letters written by scholars. The purpose is to disseminate information to scholars and professionals in a particular discipline. Scholarly journals contain certain characteristics which distinguish them from popular magazines. A peer reviewed journal is a scholarly periodical which requires articles to be critically assessed by a panel of experts before they are accepted for publication. Peer review ensures that information is of the highest quality.
Qualitative research involves analysis of data such as words (e.g., from interviews), pictures (e.g., video), or objects (e.g., an artifact).
Quantitative research involves analysis of numerical data.
To locate a specific journal such as, Research in Education, use the library's Journals list; an A to Z list of available journals.
Please note print journals can be obtained by visiting the library during regular hours.

The primary periodical databases, Education Research Complete and ERIC are available by selecting the Education subject link from the Databases tab on the Library's homepage*. Secondary periodical databases, PsycArticles and PsycINFO are also available.
